Tongo Toys

Fall 2022

How do we create an effective brand identity and image for a new concept of toy?

 Design question:

finalist in the 2024 AIGA Baltimore Flux Student Design Competition

Overview:

In my Visual Communication Design class, we partnered with the Gilliam Center for Entrepreneurship at JMU to develop branding materials for Tongo, a plush, sensory children's toy aimed at fostering creativity and aiding occupational therapy practices.

Challenge:

Our task was to create a cohesive brand identity that effectively communicates Tongo's purpose and resonates with its target audience of children and caregivers. We started from scratch with no brand guidelines besides a general idea of a color palette and aesthetic that the creator was looking for.

Approach:

We began by researching the target market and understanding the unique benefits of Tongo. With this insight, we crafted a versatile logo and developed branding materials including business cards, letterheads, and packaging. Additionally, we created a comprehensive brand guide to ensure consistency in the use of colors, typefaces, logos, imagery, and textures associated with the brand.

Solution:

Our final branding package for Tongo reflects its playful and therapeutic nature while maintaining a professional and cohesive visual identity. Through thoughtful design choices and attention to detail, we aimed to enhance the product's market appeal and communicate its value to consumers.
